Foundation History
As the time when Fir would no longer be able to car for her beloved garden approached, the question of what would become of Rhody Ridge Arboretum became real. The Snohomish County Parks department had been searching for a partner organization to maintain the garden in a manner consistent with the Butler’s desires. Continuing discussions led to the conclusion that a new entity would have to be formed to carry Rhody Ridge into the future.
Thus, in early 2015 the Rhody Ridge Foundation, a Washington State Non-profit Corporation was formed and Federal IRS 501C3 status obtained shortly thereafter. The foundation works with Fir, who is till living in her home on the arboretum property, and the parks department, to organize work parties and perform other activities to keep the garden neat and open tot he public. Potential future plans include identifying and labeling all of the plat specimens, restoration of the garden to its original design, expansion into undeveloped areas, creating educational opportunities and an event venue.
The foundation consists of a board of directors and a cadre of volunteers who love Fir and the garden. We encourage you to join us and visit Fir’s pride and joy: Rhody Ridge Arboretum!
Mission
The mission of the Rhody Ridge Foundation (RRF) is to protect, maintain and improve the garden at the Rhody Ridge Arboretum, so as to present to the community a memorable, entertaining and educational experience in the Garden. This mission will be carried out in partnership with the Snohomish County, Washington Parks Department, which is the legal owner of the property. The scope of this mission will extend to all features of the property: including but not limited to the plants, landscaping, the perimeter, outbuildings and the house. Expertise and resources for carrying out this mission will come from within the RRF, from outside sources (as deemed necessary and appropriate) and the county parks department.
